Colitis means inflammation of the colon. This causes pain and discomfort that can come in several forms. The pain can be mild and reoccur off and on over long periods of time, or it can be in the form of a “flare up” and appear suddenly and cause severe pain.
There are several types of colitis, and the treatments can vary based on the type you have, where the inflammation occurs in your body, and the reason for the inflammation, but in all types, the tissues involved, and the organ systems that support them will show signs of stress. The good news is that Williams Chiropractic & Internal Health Center can find the cause of the stress and by supporting the tissues and systems, allow them to heal.
Types of colitis:
1.
One type of colitis is caused by an overgrowth of “bad” bacteria in the gut. Most of the time, both good and bad bacteria co-exist in the gut without issue because the good bacteria keep the bad bacteria in check. Medications, especially antibiotics, can disrupt this balance by destroying healthy bacteria and bad bacteria can flourish. When the bad bacteria grow out of control, they release toxins in the gut that results in inflammation.
How we can help:
For this type of colitis, we focus support around restoring the balance between good and bad bacteria in the gut through nutritional support with herbs and enzymes and dietary changes.
2.
Sometimes colon inflammation can be the result of infections from parasites, viruses, or food poisoning. The pain and discomfort from these types lasts only as long as it takes for the body to rid itself of the infectious agent. Sometimes the inflammation is gone in hours, and sometimes the process takes much longer. While a healthy body can usually eliminate these infections on its own, a body under stress may have a much harder time doing so.
How we can help:
We can help support the body and help treat the stress to reduce the severity or the amount of time that the symptoms may last.
For optimal health, Williams Chiropractic & Internal Health Center can help your body heal and restore normal function.
